CENTRAL / HALF DAY Start your day with breakfast at the Emu Point Cafe, with a view across the channel to Mount Martin. A short walk north along the beach to the dock where the Kalgan Queen departs daily for a magnificent wildlife excursion up river. Enjoy up-close encounters pelicans and osprey, homemade damper & a winery stop. EAST / FULL OR HALF DAY Porongurup boasts many small, family-owned wineries. Meet the people who grow the grapes in the Porongurup district. It's a cool climate sub-region of the Great Southern, renowned for its intense fruit flavours that make exemplary wines. The vineyards are located in spectacular mountains. Some have picnic and barbecue areas provided and some provide lunches or picnic hampers.
EAST / FULL or HALF DAY From Albany take Chesterpass Rd to Porongorups, then Bolognup Dam Rd to picnic area for lunch. Walk to Devils Slide, or drive to Granite Skywalk (40 mins to top). The Porongorups offers a micro climate forest, spectacular rock formations, many fungus, & Castle Rock Lookout. Porongorups Village Inn or Meleeyas Thai Cafe, Dukes or Zarepath Vineyards or one of the many other local vineyards.
EAST / FULL DAY From Albany take Chesterpass RD to Stirling Ranges, turn-off to Bluff Knoll. Climb Bluff Knoll Summit for 360 views or just walk someway towards summit through ecologically unique area is well worth the drive. Take an excursion to The Lilly Windmill while visiting the Stirling Ranges. See more about The Lilly in "Attractions" on this website.
WEST / FULL or HALF DAY driving tour / swim optional This tour begins with breakfast at Middleton Beach & short walk around the Boardwalk to the lookout over the Ellen C . Next head west to the Torndirrup National Park to the Wind Farm, beaches, sightseeing including the new worldclass lookout at the Gap & Natural Bridge, The Blow-Holes, The Salmon Holes, Frenchmans Bay and the Whale Museum. OR extend to full day with swim at Fisheries Beach & lunch at the Whale Museum (Discovery Bay).
This is a historic tour around the town area. Visit the Old Goal, the Residency Museum, The Patrick Taylor Cottage Museum and more. Walk amongst the historic homes in old Albany.
Drive from Albany to Denmark along the Lower Denmark Road. In Denmark, head to Ravens or Mrs Jones Cafe for breakfast. Spend time shopping in the Village. Next take the Walpole road to William Bay and Greens Pool for a swim or just viewing (a must!). Continue on to the Bartholomews Meadery for a honey icecream & mead tasting. Now back to Denmark, calling in at Forest Hill Winery for a tasting. Next the Boston Brewery for wood fire pizza and on-site craft beer, a perfect ending to a perfect day.
A SUNDAY TOUR incorporating the Boatshed Markets. Start with coffee at Haz Beanz overlooking water (opp Albany Entertainment Centre). Walk around harbour via the ANZAC Peace Park to the The Old Goal, Brig Amity, Eclipse & Residency Museums. Then take the harbour boardwalk from Due South to the Boatshed Markets for lunc of fresh oysters & crunchy baguette. After lunch, head back to the museum precinct for more discovery.
Start with a reflective walk at the ANZAC Peace Park located at harbour, bottom of York st in town. Coffee at Haz Beanz opp the Entertainment Centre. Next the National ANZAC Centre (allow 1.5 hours), Fortress Museum and grounds of Forts area. Lunch, Garrisons (at the Forts). Next up Forts Rd & Mt Clarence to ANZAC Memorial & 360 views of Harbour & King George Sound.
